Subject: Waiting On The World To Change
1 Corinthians 7:29-31 "But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none; And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not. And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away."
It's kind of interesting to see the angst and anxiety of our elected officials as they try to make "change" happen. I think it is a very hard job in a country like ours and most every leader in every country in the world has the same problem. They all want to be "world-changers."
Taxes, should they be cut or raised? Bailouts, should we keep companies in business or should we let them fold? Wars and strife in the world, should we intervene in Iraq, Afghanistan, Darfur, Zimbabwe or should we leave this up to somebody else? All of these issues and more cry out for resolution and our leaders desire to effect "change" to the world. Not to worry leaders, this world is going to undergo an extreme makeover.
The scripture makes clear that the "fashion of this world passeth away." In other words, there will be a different world that will be forever and in that world, we won't be crying for "change." Of course that is later so what do we do until then? We live in this world with our eyes on that future world. Many of the problems that we now face have been caused by people living only with their eyes on this world. That's how we "abuse" this world. I'm not talking about becoming "green" or trying to save the whales, the trees or some near-extinction bird. I'm talking about living in a world in which He brings change.
When we live each day with only a sense of the change that we can bring to this world, then it's easy to see why we're in the situation we're in. There is another world where the fashion or style of that world is quite different. In that world, it's not about what the people want and how they make it happen, it's about what He wants and He brings it to pass. That is a tremendous change from the world we now live in.
Today you can begin living in that world now. When you let Christ rule your life and every decision you make, you are living in His world. You have no need to wait on the world to change, for you it already has.
