Subject:  Focus On The Family  

Proverbs 20:20 "Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness."

Yesterday in Samson, Alabama, a shooter went on a rampage killing 9 people before finally shooting himself.  The first person killed was his mother.  She was killed inside of the home that he burned down.  These kind of shootings happen every now and then in our country and I always wonder, "what kind of person kills his own mother, father or any other family member?"

The Proverbs say in another place that a foolish man despises his mother.  I believe that is true.  Surely there are mothers who we feel don't measure up in some cases, but to kill them is way beyond anything anyone in their right mind could wish upon the vessel through whom they were brought into this world.  The Proverb quoted above says that a person who simply curses "his father or mother...shall be put out in obscure darkness."  We can see that God has a place for those who disrespect the family and the leadership that he provides in it.

There needs to be a lot of prayer for the family today.  There is a lot of pressure on this, the most fundamental unit in our society.  The attacks are from without and within and we must hold the family together at all costs.  Today, like the name of the Dr James Dobson program, we should Focus On The Family.  There is much we can do to make it right and keep it in line with God's purpose and plan.
