Subject:  Just Run

1 Corinthians 9:24 "Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain."

Yesterday, on the deadline to do so, I filed to run for a position on the Waller I.S.D. school board; the school district where my daughters attend school.  It will be my first ever campaign of hopefully many more.  When I first told my wife that I wanted to run, she first questioned my time and ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the office, to which my response was, "I don't have to win, I just have to run."

Sometimes it's like that in life.  You get so passionate about something that you just have to do it without regard to the desired outcome.  We'd like to come out on top of most everything that we do, whether it is competing for a job, winning an athletic competition or beauty pageant, or even vying for an elected office, but I think that real victory comes in how you run.

The scripture says that we must "run that ye may obtain."  In other words, get in it to win it.  When you compete, do it to receive the prize because not everyone receives a prize in "the competition" so give it your best shot.  What the verse doesn't say is that you'll always win.  So with that in mind, all we have left is simply to just run and run the best race that we can.

Today whether it is business, politics, your personal or the spiritual life that undergirds it all, just run.  And while you're at it, run to win.
