Subject: Their Own Account Of Jesus
1 John 5:10 - 11 "He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son."
Last night I was in a bible study and we discussed how many of today's world religions respect and revere Jesus as a prophet, something I was really amazed by in Iraq. I heard many Muslims say in normal conversation things like, "Holy Jesus bless His name." I wasn't aware that they revered Jesus that way. However upon further conversation, I realized that they revered Him in the same way that they revered Moses, David and other great men of God in the bible and in fact they believe that He was simply a great prophet. As I probed and began to ask them questions about New Testament passages that cite Jesus as being more than a prophet and the Son of God they had a different tale about Him. See their story was based on the story that is written in the Koran about Him. Evidently they believe that Jesus was followed by Mohammed in the line of great prophets. We discussed many aspects of this, but the one hurdle they never got over is that they agreed that Jesus still lives and Mohammed is dead, so how can they be equal in purpose?
The problem is for Muslims like many other world religions today is that they've come to believe their own account of Jesus and not what Jesus said of Himself. In the John text He said, "if you've seen me, you've seen God." The passage above goes on to say that we must believe what the Son of God has said about Himself and not our own accounts.
Today don't believe your own account of Jesus. There really is only one way to Heaven and eternal life and that is by "believing the record that God gave of His Son. And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life and this life is in His Son."
