Subject:  Watch For An Example

Philippians 3:17  "Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample."

I was chaperoning the senior high school students on a field trip along with a few other teachers.  We were seated at the front of the school bus making small talk.  I happened to overhear a separate conversation taking place between a couple of the teachers.  One of the teachers, who was markedly overweight was explaining to the other teacher who appeared to be at a normal weight, how to eat.  I listened for quite awhile because I'm quite interested in anything about health and fitness.  I never butted in, but in my mind I wanted to ask the overweight lady giving all of the advice, "how's that been working out for you?"

This is what Paul was talking about in the Philippians passage.  He was telling the believers to look for examples of godly living.  Paul wanted them to know that everyone talking about Christian living, wasn't necessarily following it.  Paul started the church in Philippi and was telling them to follow the pattern that they had set.

I'm always amazed at the places people go for advice.   Paul knew that those believers would always look at him so he advised them to remember the things that he had taught them and to use those things as a indicator and an example of how to walk the Christian walk.

Today, God wants us to seek godly counsel and not only to look "at" godly examples of living this life, but to "be" godly examples.
