Subject:  A Book But More Than A Book

Psalm 119:1160  "Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever."

One of my cadets came into my classroom a few weeks ago and she asked for help on writing a report.  Specifically, she needed to know what she could use as a reference other than the bible on her report about character.  Of course I immediately zoned in on the issue that she couldn't use the bible.  I asked her why and she said that the teacher simply said that they couldn't use the bible.   Of course I asked who the teacher was before I went on a diatribe about why the bible is also a historical reference as well as a spiritual guide.  Like any history book it speaks of events past.  I told my cadet that there is no reason it should be excluded as a source for any report unless some teacher has a particular bias.   The student was motivated and decided that she would go challenge the teacher on this issue.  I went on to give her some great men and women of the bible that she could use in her report.

I never heard what became of that student's issue, but it highlights an increasingly common issue in our society.  The bible is disregarded and disrespected.  It's done mostly because unbelievers want to say that it is based only on beliefs.  In other words, they feel as though perhaps maybe some of the events didn't take place.  However to this date, no historical event in the bible and there are many fantastic events, from the flood to the crucifixion has ever been proven untrue by anyone and of course many have tried.

The bible is just a book, but it is so much more than that to believers.  While you can read it as a document with a lot of interesting and great stories and many unbelievers acknowledge that, it also has the ability to breathe life into a dead soul.

Today use the bible as a book, but know that it is "The Book" above all other books.
