Subject: He Only Needs To Say It Once
Psalms 62:11 - "God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God."
Is there anything that we should be proud of? Don't you have pride about something? That was a question posed to me by a friend the other day as he detailed why he was feeling bad about not being able to do for himself. He is in between jobs and needed money. My response to him prompted those questions. I said, "well first thing you need to do is get rid of the pride." He then said, "well what about the Marines? Aren't they the few, the proud...?" I said, "well that's a slogan we use, but all pride will be brought low, whether it's the Marines or you and me."
The world has really gotten us twisted on this pride thing. I did a search on "pride" and "proud" in the bible and it is never used in a positive context. The world has altered pride to appear as though it is a good thing. Here are few sample verses :
Proverbs 16:5 - Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
Proverbs 21:4 - An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.
Leviticus 26:19 - And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:
Psalms 10:4 - The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.
Proverbs 11:2 - When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
The point is that all power comes from God and when we attempt to believe it comes from us, we've taken a prideful step. God therefore always gives us an opportunity to see that He is The Power. The verse above makes the point. He only needs to tell us once and we will soon not only hear it, but see it also. All power belongs to God. Whether I'm rich or poor, sick or healthy or whatever state I'm in. The only thing that prevents me from seeing that is my pride.
