Subject: It's Not The Outside That Counts
1 Peter 3:3-4 "Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of
plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel, but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible,
even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price."
You've seen the commercials. Here is an example of one that God has
created.
Plaited hair - $70
Gold jewelry - $700
Fine Dress - $300
A meek and quiet spirit - Priceless
That's the verse in 1 Peter explained. We can spend many hours and many dollars trying to fix up our outward appearance but it's the "hidden man of
the heart" that counts. This verse doesn't say that we are not to fix ourselves up in anyway, but it speaks to the excesses in attaining physical
beauty while neglecting the spiritual. When we decide not to go to church because we don't have anything to wear, then we have neglected the
spiritual. When we accept people into our "inner circle" because they look
the right way or don't look a certain way, then we've neglected the spiritual.
We should spend as much time if not more on our spiritual
because as Proverbs states, beauty is vain, but one who fears the Lord is to be praised. Let's consider it.
