Subject: A Better Murderer
Isaiah 9:17 "Therefore the LORD shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still."
They are still trying to find out if the person who murdered Dr George Tiller is related to any specific anti-abortion group. The doctor was murdered in his church yesterday while serving as an usher. What I expect we'll find out in the end is that the person who shot and killed the doctor believes that he was doing something good and will say something like, "I needed to protect the innocent."
Surveys now show that more Americans are anti-abortion than are pro-life. Regardless of which side of that issue a person is on, everyone should be against murder. Many abortion opponents would argue that terminating life in the womb is murder, but they would surely have to admit that murdering the murderer doesn't make sense on a rational ground. That serves only to make the person who killed this doctor a hypocrite.
Today self-righteousness doesn't make you right; righteousness does. And to be righteous means to live rightfully. It is by all measures hypocritical to do to others something that you abhor them doing. In the case of Dr Tiller's death, the assailant must think himself a better type of murderer. That is sad. What is great is that God is still trying to reach us all regardless of which side of the abortion issue we are on. Pray for the murderer as well as the widow and those left behind.
