Subject:  Exercising Light Discipline

Matthew 5:16 - "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

In the military, while training in the field for combat, we exercise "light discipline."  It means operating with as little light as necessary.  Flashlights are given darkened or colored lenses so that they won't shine as brightly.  Watches with lights are covered to prevent giving away your position to the enemy.  Vehicles run on night lights which allow them to drive in darkened conditions.

Exercising light discipline is key when you're in combat and with kids in the house it's also essential.  Every day it seems like I walk around the house turning off every light that's on for no significant purpose.  These days that's quite a few lights.  Not only is it unnecessary, it's a waste of a resource.

What about your light?  The light that shines inside of you, is it a wasted resource?  Are you exercising "light discipline?"

Remember lights are used to guide and help you or others see.  Use your light wisely.  Let it shine before men.
