Subject: One Miracle We Know Of
Matthew 16:17 - "And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven."
I was teaching a group of teenagers this week in Vacation Bible School and I asked them if they had ever seen a miracle. A few of them told me some stories that they heard about, but none that seemed to really fit the definition of a miracle. I then asked how many of them were Christians. They all raised their hands. I then went on to say, "then you should all know of one miracle for sure." They didn't get it. We then began a discussion about whether or not our salvation experience was a miracle. One explanation from a student was that it was more traditional and that they were taught from their parents what it meant to have Jesus and so they just did it.
I spent most of the remainder in class that day explaining portions of the verse above. They all knew people who were the only Christians in their family, which shows that it's not just something that is always "passed down" to others, though they may be persuaded to pursue that path. Remember Abraham was born into a pagan family and was chosen by God.
If you've ever really thought about it, you could find a million reasons to explain why God saved you, but in the end, there is only one. You were chosen. God didn't save you just because your mom and dad or anyone else was saved and for sure He didn't save you because you deserved it or did something special for Him. He saved you because He wanted you in His family. When He could've easily chosen from billions, He wanted you.
Today, as believers in Jesus Christ, we should all know of one miracle and that is the one where He picked us out of the crowd for Himself. That to me is nothing short of miraculous.
