Subject: How We Witness
John 1:8 - "He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light."
Melanie was telling me how she was undercharged at the grocery store on yesterday. When she realized it, she returned with the receipt and told the clerk that she paid too little. The clerk said, "you're right" and made the correction. After Melanie told me her story, in jest I said, "well I can top that one." I was at the feed store yesterday. I ordered 2 bags of this particular type of horse feed. The attendant rang it up and proceeded outside to place the bags into the rear of my car. He added two and then went back and picked up a third and was loading it when I said to him, "I only have two of those on my order." He looked around and checked his receipt and then said, "oh, you could've had a free bag of feed." I responded, "yea I could've but it wasn't going to be free. It always comes out in the wash." He said, "yea that's true."
The point of these two stories goes beyond the Christian duty of being honest. It goes further to the type of witness that we proclaim of Jesus Christ. In our every day circumstances, this is how we witness. See the world is watching our (believers) every move to see what they think of the Savior that we proclaim. If we are dishonest and untrue in our dealings, then to them that is a measure of the truthfulness of the message that we proclaim of Jesus.
The NBA (National Basketball Association) has this advertising motto for their newest superstar, Lebron James. Everyone proclaims in the add, "I'm a witness." Well the shirts might be referring to Lebron James but in reality they're witnessing us. So today check what you're showing them.
