Subject: Watch The Talking
Proverbs 18:21 - "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof."
A friend communicated her grief to me concerning her sister's recent bout and untimely death to cancer. Her sister had proclaimed that she was "healed" by Jesus and she didn't want anyone speaking "negative" words around her. As she battled the cancer, she refused all medical treatments because "she knew that God would heal her." As she continued to deteriorate, she told family and friends, "don't go by what you see. I've claimed healing in Jesus' name." To her I'm sure she thought that was a statement of faith.
We should be careful about the things that we say and especially so when we attribute those things to God or some action that He is taking or going to take. Surely we can hear God and know many times what He is saying to us, but when our flesh enters in and we speak more of our desires than His will, we will ultimately have to eat our own words, which is what the passage above says. Some people love to espouse the greatness of God by talking about what He is doing for them and indeed He does much for all of us, but oftentimes a grateful heart can be communicated without great prophetic utterances of what God is going to do for me, e.g. giving me more money, health or material wealth.
Today we should be slow to speak because with death and life being the power of the tongue, surely we could be committing suicide.
