Subject:  Bruce Wayne Is Batman

Ephesians 1:19  "And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power."

As a show of how old I am and how things change, I began mouthing the soundtrack from the original Batman series at school one day and the students looked at me as if I was crazy.  I said, "that's the theme from Batman."  They looked at me with unbelief.  I had to go on and say, "you know, with Dick Grayson and Alfred living at Wayne Manor with Bruce."  I lost them there.

As I tried to tell the students about the original series, I realized a spiritual truth about the show.  Think about this.  When Bruce Wayne is going about his daily tasks, he is a mere mortal, subject to the world and all it throws at him and he is quite powerless.  I remember one show where he was kidnapped and could do nothing.  However, when Bruce Wayne hits that button that slides that bookcase back and gets suited up as he drops down into The Batcave, he becomes the super-hero Batman.  Now with the help of his utility belt, he can fight evil villains, such as the joker, the riddler, the penquin and catwoman.

This is the way we are as believers.  If I try to fight in my natural strength, the world will beat me up.  I'm ill-equipped for the villains in my life.  However, the magic button which suits me up is when I access the power of the Holy Spirit.  See I might still be "Carlen" by name, but I become "Christian Man" the super-hero able to defeat or escape sin every time.

Today know that God has given us an "exceeding greatness of His power."   To access it, we must be in Him.  The world can be a very bad place.  Batman was there to clean up Gotham city and few knew that He was also Bruce Wayne.  They might not know who you are spiritually, but whatever your name is, you've got put on your "super (natural)-hero" suit to fight the world in His power.
