Subject: It's Like Cursing
Ephesians 4:29 "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers."
I'm wondering how these people get into office with the attitude that their words reflect. I've got two cases.
Case #1: Yesterday Rep. Peter King of New York yesterday in his description of Michael Jackson, called him a "pervert" and a "pedophile," both subjective statements I might add. That would have been enough but he went on to say, "there is nothing good to say about this guy." Okay so the guy sells millions of records and has millions of people who like him for some reason but there is "nothing good to say about this guy?" Even people who didn't care for him at all said that he could really dance.
Case #2: Last week Barbara Boxer during a hearing in the Senate, got a little miffed when a General called her "ma'am." She interrupted him in mid-sentence and said, "could you please call me Senator? I worked so hard for that title." I think everyone was stunned to hear such an arrogant attitude from an elected official to a decorated serviceman.
I wonder if either one of these people know about this verse in the bible. It talks about ministering grace when you open your mouth. We have an opportunity to edify every time we speak and when we don't do that, it's just like cursing as far as God is concerned. When we do that, we are ministering grace to the hearers.
Some things are simply better left unsaid. As the scripture says, "let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth." Mr King and Ms Boxer should listen to their words and see if they can find the grace in them. From my viewpoint, they were both cursing.
