Subject:  Do You Say Hallelujah With That Mouth?

James 3:10 - "Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be."

Okay I've finally had it with the use of this word.  Over the years I've discussed the use of this term with Christians as an improper word for most applications.  Basically, it's a word that we, believers, should probably not use.  Emphasis on probably.  There could be some legitimate use of it, but I don't know how when you read the definition.   Look at this definition:

Sexy - 1. Arousing or tending to arouse sexual desire or interest.

The reason this has me decrying the use of that word today is because I was reading an article on the internet about the funeral of Luther Vandross.  One of the fans was lamenting how great he was and then went on to say that he was "a sexy, honest, generous and loving person."

The verse above may not be completely applicable here, but it's what I think about anytime I hear a "Christian" saying something that doesn't sound like Christ and such is the case with the word sexy.  There are just some things that shouldn't come out of the mouths of God's people.

And if you look in a thesaurus at some of the synonyms, you'll find, "lascivious, lustful, lust, and concupiscent."  All of these synonymous words are in the bible and for Christians the synonyms of sexy are synonymous with sin.  So when when believers say that someone is sexy, do they really mean that they are lusting?  Maybe not, but that's what the meaning of the word says.  Therefore if we feel that someone is attractive, we should say so and not indicate that they have sexually aroused us.  Of course if the word is appropriate then you've got the sin issue to deal with.

I can't tell you what sexy is (I think it's just lust) but I do know that Christians shouldn't be using it to describe their feelings about people.   The next time I hear a Christian say something of this sort I will ask, "do you say Hallelujah with that mouth?"
