Subject:  A Personal Declaration Of Independence

Romans 6:21-22 "What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.  But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life."

We know July 4th as Independence Day in the United States.  It is the anniversary of our founding as a nation or actually, the date that we formally declared to the King of the British Empire that we were a free and sovereign nation.  The declaration went on to justify the independence of the United States by listing grievances of the thirteen original states against King George III and stating specifically why we had a right of revolution.  Of course today it seems pretty obvious in our country that we have a right to revolution.  It seems someone is always rebelling against this thing or that thing or protesting one way or another.  That occurs so naturally in the secular realm, but we should carry it into the spiritual realm and "rebel" there also.

We have a right to revolution from the control of Satan, our flesh and the world.  All of these forces are much like the King of the British Empire and if we were to keep record, we have a long list of grievances on how these forces have been painfully and unduly subjecting us to their control.  They have been making us do things that we don't want to do and as the scripture says, with the ultimate goal of trying to kill us.

Today, we should make a personal declaration of independence that we are free and sovereign and only under the control of our "government" which is headed by the Lord, Jesus Christ.  Much like the American Revolutionary War, we have been made free by the universal war He waged on our behalf.  We now only serve Him as King.  This is our Independence Day.  Declare freedom from sin and celebrate.
