Subject: We Might Have To Cut Back
Philippians 4:5 "Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand."
The headlines read "California Budget Deal: No New Taxes, Many Big Cuts." And to think, it only took getting in the red to the tune of $26 billion for them to realize that they needed to do that. If I did that $1 over our money my wife would call me stupid. Okay she would be more tactful, but the implication would be the same.
These are now the same concerns facing our federal government. With record deficits of a trillion dollars, it appears that we're still spending. One day, someone is going to have to pay and in California they're predicting that it will be the elderly and the poor, but their new budget also has deep cuts in education.
Excess plagues every facet of our society today and it takes us a long while before we decide that maybe we need to "cut back." The scripture makes it clear that we should be known for our moderation. Within that term there is a connotation of self-control and this is from the Holy Spirit.
So today if moderation is your problem, the answer is once again, the Holy Spirit. When He is in control, you don't have an excess of anything, but you have enough of everything. Think about it.
