Subject:  NUMB

1Timothy 4:1-2 - "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;"

Sometimes it's amazing how God uses secular or worldly instruments (people and things) to impart His message.  I think about that whenever I hear a song called "Numb" by Linkin Park.  They sound like a "searching" group.  They're not really sure where they fit in but in "Numb" they say, "I've become so numb, I can't feel you there."  They go on in the chorus to say, "...and be more like me and be less like you."

That really is what happens to us when we no longer feel the conviction that should accompany wrongdoing.  We get numb to God's righteousness and holiness and it's as though a hot iron has seared our conscience as the verse above says.  After a living object has been seared with a hot iron, the sensation or feeling is gone.  The object can continue to live, but without any feeling of what they are doing or what's being done to them.

Maybe today some of us are so numb that we can't feel Him there and while we should be getting more like Him and less like ourselves, we let the opposite happen.  Today, let's pray that God continually impress upon our hearts the sinfulness of sin.  When we get numb, not only do we no longer feel Him there, we are wayward, doing our own thing and as they say in the song, "every step that I take is another mistake to you."
