Subject:  The King's Highway

Psalms 119:35 - "Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight."

I'm still amazed at how terrible traffic can be at any time on any day in the Washington D.C. area.  On Saturday, at about noon, I was headed south on the infamous I-95 highway and we came to a typical snarl in the traffic.   I didn't mind the wait in the traffic because I wasn't in a hurry and well, I guess you get used to it after so many years.  Anyway, at one point I noticed a group of cars doing the "cut-through" to the HOV lanes.  That means they were going across the divider that says "authorized vehicles only" to get into the HOV lanes.  Yeah, breaking the law.  After only a couple of minutes passed, it seems that justice was served because up ahead, the HOV lanes were at a complete standstill and the regular traffic began to flow quite smoothly.  I noticed many of the cars that I had seen doing the "cut-through" looking quite frustrated with their lot.

This, more than anything, reminded me of myself at times.  Not in a traffic situation, but in life.  Many times I'm going along fine in life.  I'm driving on the "King's Highway," so to speak.  Then I hit a snarl in the traffic and so I start to look around for ways to get off of the road that I'm on.  Sometimes I even try the "cut-through" to what I know is God's destination for me, but that doesn't work and, like the people in the traffic on Saturday, I always lose time and find myself frustrated with my lot.

Today, let's not "break the law" to get to God's destination.  As the verse above says, delight in the path of His commandments.  He has given us all of the road-signs that tell us what His path is.  If you're on a highway with signs that lead to love, joy and peace, stay on it.  Even if you hit a snag in the traffic on this road, you will always arrive at your destination right on time.
