Subject: The Commitment Of The Midwives
Exodus 1:17, 20 "But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive: Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty."
Please take time to study Exodus 1. We covered the subject matter in our church bible study last night and a simple reading of most any scripture always seems to ring prophetic. The bible is truly the "living word" of God.
What the passage so clearly pointed out last evening was that the commitment of a few people submitting to God can change the destiny of an entire people or country. In this case it was the commitment of the midwives who were given an order by the king to kill the male babies. They feared God and wouldn't do it. Because they feared God and wouldn't kill the male babies, the scripture goes on to say that their people multiplied and waxed mighty. This doesn't only mean that there were more of them, it means that they were prospering as a people.
Something to think about: Could our financial crisis be due to the fact that we have sanctioned, "killing the babies" in this country? Of course non-believers would laugh at such a suggestion. Believers should take this to heart.
The commitment of a few who fear God can turn the tide of all of our country's and the world's problems where government will often continue to fail. I know that this might depress some who have all of their hope in a "new" king, but rightly submitted to God, we have more power than the king.
Today let us all make a commitment to "fear God" as the midwives did. That's how God will heal our land and others may get the credit for it, but we don't care about that. Our reward is coming. Be like the midwives and commit to fear God, believe Him and live by His word.
