Subject:  The Finisher

Hebrews 12:2 - "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

If you watch basketball, you'll often hear the commentators speak of "finishing."  Finishing in basketball is the act of being able to not only make a move to the basket, but also able to ensure that it ends up in points.  Dr. J, Larry Bird and of course Michael Jordan were some of the all-time great finishers.  I played a little basketball in high school and while I had great quickness and moves, I had problems "finishing."

Jesus is called the "finisher" of our faith.  While it may not make sense to some theologically, I apply the basketball definition of "finishing" and it works.  Think about it, Christ made all of the moves necessary to score.  He became flesh and dwelt among us and then lived a perfect life.  Finally, He took upon Himself our sin on the cross.  That was the slam-dunk of a lifetime and in fact His closing statement was "It is finished."

Jesus Christ, The Finisher.  Knowing this, we should get started today.
