Subject: The Real Sleep Number
Psalms 84:10 - "For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness."
I did it again last night and I hate when I do it. I fell asleep on the couch watching the news or something. By the time I awakened to put on night clothes and got into bed, it was 2 a.m. We have one of those Tempurpedic beds and boy does it really put you into a really deep sleep. It actually starts your sleep over to make up for sleeping anywhere else. So when my alarm went off for my 4 a.m. gym time, I hit it and went back to sleep only to awaken 40 minutes later. It was then too late to make my daily gym workout. That's what happens when I fall asleep where I'm not supposed to.
This is how it is with God. We spend much of our time searching for peace and escape from the issues of life outside of God. That's like sleeping on the couch. There's no real rest if you're outside of the will of God. As the verse above says, you can spend a thousand days there and it doesn't compare to one with God. However to the contrary, to be in the place that God wants you is like sleeping on the Tempurpedic. The quality of life when you're in God's will is so much better; just as the Tempurpedic provides a better quality of sleep.
Today get up off of the couch and get in the bed that God has prepared for you. In the end, it's not how much life you lived, it's how much life you lived resting in Christ. That's the real "sleep number."
