Subject:  What Cha Gonna Do?  Kill Me?

Luke 12:4 - "And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do."

With continuing threats of violence and death, millions of Iraqis turned out at the polls to cast their votes for the future of Iraq.  I was watching the news and a reporter who had spent time in Iraq talked about how surprised he was at the turnout of the people and how he had "underestimated" the Iraqi people.  That's something that I didn't do.

I've given many speeches to different groups since returning from Iraq and I've always talked about the character of the Iraqi people.  One of the points that I make during the brief is about how strong the terrorists and insurgents are making the Iraqi people.  Their constant killing and barbaric, murderous attacks can only serve one purpose to people who are continually subjected to it.  For when the possibility of death is no longer a fear, but instead a reality to face, there is nothing more that man can do.  They no longer fear the "bad men."  I mean think about it,  let's say  you're facing the loss of your job.  You probably think it's a big deal.  But if you're in the hospital with terminal cancer facing the prospect of one more week of life and your boss comes in and says he's gonna fire you from your job, it means nothing.  Even if someone is gonna kill you at that point, you don't really care.

There is only so much that man can do to us.  As the scripture says, the little that he can do should not be our concern.  What should be of concern to us as believers should be the fear of the Lord.

A vote for a man in office isn't nearly as important a decision as the choice we make for our eternal home.  That is a life or death decision.   For believers, we've already died once anyway.  Therefore, we should have no fear of man or the second death.  Let's live that way.  After all, what's someone gonna do, kill us?  Nope.  We're gonna live forever.
