Subject:  Remembered For...

Psalms 145:7 - "They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness."

On this National Day of Mourning, the 38th President of the United States was eulogized.  Gerald R. Ford is being put to rest tomorrow in his home state of Michigan.  With his death, there were reflections of his life and images that recounted his role in  American history.  Gerald Ford was ushered into the presidency by the misfortune of scandal, i.e., Watergate.  Most will remember that he lost his bid for the presidency to Jimmy Carter, a little known Georgia peanut farmer.  The lost is still seen, from a historical perspective, as due to his pardon of the president he replaced, Richard M. Nixon.

Time has seemingly erased much of the bitterness that many felt for Ford after the pardon, however, the memory still remains and almost every column written about him speaks to that episode, even in his death.

What will you be remembered for?  At the graveside everyone searches endlessly for great words to say about those who have passed.  How difficult will that be for those at your graveside?  Will they talk about how you gave to the poor and needy?  Will they talk about how you helped people improve their lot in life?  Maybe they'll talk about how you accumulated much wealth and treasure.

We remember God for His great goodness and righteousness.  Perhaps that's how we should be remembered.  Goodness and righteousness, let's strive for that today.  For that's how we should be remembered.
