Subject:  Still Speaking Jesus

Luke 9:26 "For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels."

You no doubt heard much about the controversy surrounding Saddleback's Rick Warren giving the invocation at the inauguration.  Well it happened and while everyone may have had their heads bowed, their ears were surely open and listening to see if he would pray  "narrow-mindedly" as the world refers to those who believe in Jesus.  As I listened with my high school students, I lost a little bit of control when I heard him get around to saying "Jesus."  Of course my students at school know where I stand on this issue, so my quick words of "that's what I'm talking about," didn't take them by surprise.

Paul Shepherd, another minister out in California was talking in his message yesterday, how if somebody ever invites him to pray somewhere and expects him to pray a prayer for all people and not use the name Jesus, they might as well not even ask.  That's the attitude we should all have.

The world really does want us to compromise what we believe because if we do, we confirm to them that we're not really that "into" Jesus as we say.

Today what would it take you to stop speaking Jesus?  A fancy speaking engagement with famous people, perhaps the President or would money do it for you?  Nothing should stop us from proclaiming our Savior.  Keep speaking Jesus.  They'll eventually understand, because one day every knee shall bow...
