Subject: Bad Advice
1 Chronicles 19:3 - 4 "But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land? Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the midst hard by their buttocks, and sent them away."
It's not so bad that we get bad advice sometimes, but it is really bad when we act on that advice. That's the story in this passage with David. David had gone to pay tribute to Hanun because of his father's death and Hanun began listening to all of his princes who said that David had other motives. It's a great story to illustrate the kinds of mistakes we make when we follow bad advice.
In the end, David went to war with the children of Ammon and routed them and Hanun eventually made peace with David.
Today consider to whom you are listening and from where you get your direction and advice. If you read this 19th chapter of 1st Chronicles, you'll see plainly that it is costly to heed misguided information.
