Subject: The Garment Maker's Instructions
Isaiah 22:11b - "...but ye have not looked unto the maker thereof, neither had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago."
I was doing laundry this past weekend and I was going to wash a new shirt for the first time. Normally, I just take it and throw it in with the other clothes and however it comes out, it comes out. I'm not too concerned with that little tag that has all of the care instructions on it. However, this time, I decided to pay attention and follow the directions closely. Surprise!!! The shirt came out of the washing machine and the dryer as though it were brand new. I must admit, I was amazed.
That's often how we are with God's word. After all, His word is the care tag located on the neck of our lives. It tells us exactly how to ensure that we are renewed everyday so that we are useable by God. However, we sometimes go about choosing our own methods of care. If we're lonely we take on an inappropriate relationship. If we're in need of money, we find an ill way to gain some. If we're angry with someone, we treat them without concern for how our Maker said that we should treat them. We basically ignore all of the instructions in trying to care for ourselves.
The "care tag" was written for our care and so that we would last until we have fulfilled all of our purpose. Our Garment Maker, like the people who made that shirt, knows how to best care for us. We should follow the instructions.
