Subject: His Words Speak As Loudly As His Actions
The world says that
talk is cheap and that words are only worth the paper that they’re written
upon. That can be true in the world. In our world contracts can be violated
without consequence. Promises are often broken or forgotten. Oaths are
tossed aside when circumstances change. It’s no wonder that man has so little
faith in promises, contracts or words. We’ve lost faith in promises because
we have broken so many ourselves. Fortunately, in this respect, God isn’t
like man. God says that His promises are as good as fulfilled, “God is
not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that He should change His
mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?”
(Numbers 23:19)
With regard to the truth
of His word, God has set one of His highest standards. Without exception
He lives up to His promises and delivers on what He says. Why, because He’s
God and that is His nature. Without the unfailing integrity of His word,
we as believers have nothing upon which to base our faith. If God ever
failed to live up to His promises, any one of them, why should we ever believe
anything else He has said or should say? His word is the foundation of our
faith. It is everything. If His word is faulted then the faith is shattered.
We have no need to worry though because He’s already told us that His word
is His bond. God even goes so far as to say that He is his “Word” and it
is eternal: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and
the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.” (John 1:1-2)
God’s words speaks
as loudly as His actions. Let’s listen.
