Subject:  Back To Life - Lessons From The Bush Presidency

Exodus 1:8 "Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph."

It is amazing to see the contrasts between our newly inaugurated President and his predecessor.  They clearly have different backgrounds and thoughts on life.  Of course it's not amazing that I have views that seem to coincide more with the former President's than the current.  Much of it I'm sure has to do with geography and the way we grow people in Texas.  As a matter of fact, the picture above could be me on any given weekend here at the house.

At any rate, here are ten things I learned from the Bush presidency.  I thought he did a pretty good job until the last year when he started giving the bailouts (handouts.)  Well here are my lessons learned:

1)There are people who need caring for even when others hate that you care for them and sometimes it is the people that you are caring for.

2)A leader’s popularity varies directly with the people’s comfort level.

3)Marines excluded, most people prefer ease and comfort over sacrifice and hardship.

4)Resolve is what happens when you do something and decide to finish it.  That is usually longer than most people can stomach.

5) Challenges are plentiful and decisions are difficult, but you could always pick the easier challenges.  Those challenges have easier decisions.  Choose your challenges and remember #2.

6)I’m making more money than I was 8 years ago and that’s because I decided more than 20 years ago to serve my country.  It wasn’t an economic decision at the time but it produced economically well much later.  Serving, you always win.

7)Bailouts are for losers.  Seriously, they’re for losers.

8)Your principles don’t work if you abandon them.

9)I’d rather be judged by history as dumb, stupid and a war mongerer than to be known as the guy who cheated on his wife.  Character still matters.

10)Regardless of who is in charge, “The Big 3” does not consist of automakers.  They will always be The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.
