Subject:  What It Means To You

1 Corinthians 9:22 - "... I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some."

The final conference championship game had just ended and the two teams were slated for the Super Bowl.  As the commentators went around their circle of four to talk about the teams and analyzing the upcoming game, one commentator continually alluded to the fact that this marked the first time that a black coach was coaching in the Super Bowl and that both teams are coached by African Americans.  As soon as he finished each statement, another commentator would continue on a totally different subject.

The way we view circumstances and situations is based on our personal experiences and the unique personality that God has given us.  The fact that one commentator saw the game as opportunity to express the diversity of our society doesn't negate any of the other viewpoints of the upcoming championship game, it simply adds more color to picture of life that God is painting.

God's word is much like this.  When read by two people, one can leave with a view that the other could not comprehend.  Does that necessarily mean that this viewpoint is not there?  No it means that God is so omniscient that with one word He can say millions of things to millions of people and it can mean something different to each one.  His word is all things to all people.  That's why God exhorts us to come into a personal relationship with Him; so that we can know what He is saying to us personally.

See it's not just important to know what the word means.  You've got to know what it means to you.
