Subject: You Pick The Destination, He'll Pick The Vehicle
Proverbs 16:9 - "A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps."
Life can be strange with it's twist and turns but what does this verse really say? In a nutshell, it says that God is in control and we're not.
I was on the phone talking with an old high school friend over the weekend and she explained how much regret she had over her divorce. As I questioned her about what she learned through those circumstances and how it had changed her, she began to realize that perhaps the things she prayed for, such as patience, love, and kindness, could've only been attained through these circumstances in her life that had stretched her faith.
We frequently ask God to take us places in our character that make us more like Him. We can reach those destinations, but not by our natural effort or our own means. It takes God's supernatural vehicles to transport us to those places. That's what I think the verse means. We can decide where we're going, but God ultimately decides the vehicle and how we get there. Therefore, when He sends us on a path that we did not choose, don't stop the vehicle or turn around, just let Him drive.
