Subject: Survivors Ready!
Mark 10:32-33 "Back on the road, they set out for Jersualem. Jesus had a head start on them and they were following, puzzled and not just a little afraid..."Listen to me carefully. We're on our way up to Jerusalem. When we get there, the Son of Man will be betrayed to the religious leaders and scholars. They will sentence him to death."
Well I'm sure everyone
has at some point over the last few years, tuned into the forefather of
all those crazy reality shows - Survivor. I have to confess right up front
that I've been an addict from almost the very beginning...watching all the
fights and chaos between the survivors, the physical & mental struggles
and of course, the willingness to do just about anything to be the Sole Survivor,
has definitely intrigued me. It truly never ceases to amaze me what people
will go through for money, fame etc. - those dangling carrots that seem
to entice just about everyone at some point. My question is, what if the
reward was just the opposite? What if, in the end, the person who did it
all right, was the only one who didn't survive. That was their reward.
Death...and not just any death, but a death more brutal than most care to
acknowledge. If that was you - would you be enduring all that sweat and
tears to achieve that reward? It's something that's always puzzled me about
my Jesus...that's exactly what He did. He played hard...he fought against
the powers that be in His lifetime to do and teach what was right. To live
the life He knew He was called to live. To carry out the task that had
been laid out before Him. Even though all along, he knew what the end had
in store for Him. In the passage that I chose, something that has always
stuck out to me was the part where it says "Jesus had a head start on them".
He wasn't lagging behind or cowering because of his fate. He marched forward
with determination and an eagerness to do the will of His Father. Today
lets consider how we can be not only obedient, but enthusiastically obedient,
no matter how difficult the task, to whatever it is our Father has called
us to do.
