Subject: Sin X Sin
2 Samuel 11:14 - 15 "And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah. And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die."
You may have seen or heard about this story in the news. A Marine Corporal is on the run after authorities found the body of a fellow Marine in his backyard. They also found a baby slain that the fellow Marine had been carrying. The baby was allegedly the product of a rape that occurred by the Marine Corporal. It appears from the outset that this Marine tried to cover his sin with...more sin.
That's a lesson for us today. We don't fix sin by sin. The scripture above is a classic case of man trying to fix sin by sin. David committed adultery with Bathsheba and then had Bathsheba's husband killed so that he could cover up his sin.
These are extreme examples of how we can do this, but think about the more subtle ways that we do it everyday. We first tell a "small" lie about going somewhere or doing something and then when someone asks us if we did it or went there, we tell another one to support the first one.
Understand today that the only remedy for sin is confession and repentance. If we do that, we can prevent sin from multiplying in our lives. Sin X Sin = SIN.
