Subject:  What Grown-ups Do

Psalms 100:5 - "For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations."

We were having a discussion yesterday about growing up.  We talked about how parenting has changed for the better and for the worse.  The discussion revolved around parents and their ability to communicate love to their children.  Many who are 35 and older, didn't get parents who were verbally expressive of their affections for their children.  However, I pointed out that many parents of that generation were into "doing" love.  To them love was an action that required hard work and discipline and a responsibility to pass those things on to their children.  Most children of that era will state that they knew their parents loved them even though it was never stated.

Today you can hear people from all walks of life using their parents as the excuse for their misdeeds, even at 20, 30 and 40 years old.  While parents can make mistakes that affect us as children, God says that, "His truth endureth to all generations."  At some point we have to take responsibility for finding that truth ourselves.  Without regard for your imperfect parents, if you are a sane adult, you can affect the necessary change to become whole.  It simply requires removal of the crutch that it's someone else's fault and the acceptance that God has the truth.  Because really, even if our parents did mess us up, their acknowledgment of that wouldn't fix our problem.

Today, grow up and be a grown-up.  That means taking responsibility for who you are.  God is into truth and it is available for us all; always has been and always will be.
