Subject: Who Is Your Father?
John 8:39-44 “Abraham is our father.” they answered. “If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would do the things Abraham did.” …”If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire."
It is human nature for us to associate a child with his father or to identify a child according to his father’s physical features or behaviors. Truly
many of the same physical features can be present, however, it does not always validate the claim of a father-child relationship.
In the passage above, the Jews claimed Abraham as their father. Later in verse 41 they claimed “ The only Father we have is God himself.” Jesus had a clear-cut response to these claims; He made three astounding, convicting declarations to them: (verses 39& 42).
Jesus declared to the hypocrites “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the
beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
This same question is set before us today. “Who IsYour Father?” As believers in Christ our lives ought to line up with our claim.” If we say the only
Father we have is God himself, then we should be found doing as the Father does and as He has directed us to do. A child of God loves as his Father
loves, is obedient to the Father, is anxious to make known to others who his Father really is.
Does your life say who your Father really is? This is a question we must answer daily, not only through what we say, but also what we do. Who is your
Father?
