Subject: The Angels Are Not Bush-Haters
2 Peter 2:9-11 "The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord."
I was listening to a radio show the other day and the host was playing clips from President Bush's final press conference. The President was thanking the press corps for their reporting and the relationship that he built with them during his years in office. The President was being very gracious even in acknowledging that he felt that he was sometimes misrepresented. It was nice to hear him talk about how during his Presidency he tried to do what he thought was right. After the radio host finished playing the clip, he took a telephone call. There are surely many "Bush-haters," people who hate him for any number of reasons, but this guy had to be the president of the bush-haters club. The radio host was taken aback by the vitriol and the meanness by the caller and he let him continue in his rant and at the end said, "do you feel better now?"
There really is a difference between disagreeing with someone and their viewpoints and just being hateful. Why some people so hate the outgoing President, I'm not really sure, but I pray that believers not be yoked up with that crowd toward any of our government officials. These are people who take pride in identifying how the President has messed up this or that.
Personally I hate our tax code in this country. I hate what our government is doing with regards to God and religion. I hate that our government has legislated and authorized the killing of unborn babies. Of course I disagree on this issues and many more, but I just don't believe demeaning and name-calling of the people responsible for this helps that situation.
The scripture above talks about the angels relationship to dignitaries and government officials. It says that though they are greater in power and might than we are, they don't demean our authorities, so why should we?
As you listen to a lot of the discourse as we begin the transition of authority, make sure you steer clear of the crowd that is talked about in the scripture above. The scripture goes on to say, "they shall utterly perish in their own corruption." Bottom line, the angels are not Bush-haters, so we shouldn't be either.
