Subject: The Question They're Really Asking
1 Timothy 4:12 - "Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."
It happened again. Early in the presidential race, Mike Huckabee distinguished himself as man unashamed of his Christian faith by answering a question about his belief on how the world began. In another debate last week, held in South Carolina, Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas was queried again concerning his faith. This time the debate host asked him to defend a position he took many years ago when he endorsed a statement by the Southern Baptist Convention that said that "wives should graciously submit to their husbands." Without going into his exact wording, his answer once again displayed how unashamed he is of his belief in the God of the bible.
Prior to his final answer on the question, Mike Huckabee, quipped, "religion is supposed to be out of bounds, but I seem to get all of the questions on religion." He then went on to say, "but since you asked, let me answer." It was clear that he realizes that they are asking because they really do want to see if believers, not just Huckabee, but you and me also, really do believe in the God of the bible. They want to see if we will defend Jesus. Not that Jesus needs our defense, but we need to be people who are ready for the questions from the world concerning our faith.
See in the end, the question they're really asking is, "are you real?" The world thinks that it's okay for you to believe in Jesus, but they don't want you to live that believe out in all things. Paul understood that and that's why he told Timothy to be an example in every area of his life.
Today understand that when unbelievers ask you a "religious" question, they simply want to know if you live what you believe. Now consider how you would answer that.
