Subject:  Anybody Heard From God Lately?

1 Kings 19:11 - 12 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:  And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice."

Mudslides, earthquakes, tsunamis,...what next?  A question was asked to a famous televangelist the other day about all of the natural disasters we've been having.  The reporter said, "do you think God is saying something?"  The televangelist responded by saying, "this is just the course of nature."  While these are in fact natural occurrences, I think the story of Elijah above illustrates how God uses these things.

We are always wondering what God is saying to us or trying to show us and we look for Him in many everyday things.  Elijah was summoned out to the mountain to hear what God wanted to say to Him.  God used the wind, the earthquake and the fire to get Elijah's attention and then He finally spoke to him in a "still small voice."  The scripture says that God wasn't in those things, however, God controls all of those things and He uses them to get our attention.  In Romans 1 it says that  we can understand the "invisible things" of God by the things that He has made in His creation.

The recent disasters may not be directly tied to God's disgust with man, but we must believe that God has used these things and all other things created to get our attention.  Now we must listen for the "still small voice" and heed it.
