Subject: Wise Foolishness
Romans 1:22 - "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,"
As we discussed in Luke 2:52 how Jesus as a 12 year-old began to grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man, we realized that you can be wise and do some foolish things at the same time. A perfect biblical example was Solomon. He was so wise that people came from distant lands just to see a display of his wisdom. Yet in all of his wisdom, he committed some foolish acts, most notably taking many wives and being led astray by some of them. In modern times, I often think of a former president we had, who to me was the smartest president I've seen. However, that didn't preclude him from acts of moral and ethical indiscretion.
Today we need to understand that our wisdom is another tool to be used in our pursuit of God's holiness. Because what good does wisdom do us if we are simply wise. We need to be wise for God's purposes. Everything else is just "wise foolishness."
