Subject: Help And You Shall Be Helped
Matthew 6:14 - "For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:"
There is a really good commercial on television these days. I actually don't even remember the product, which is quite common when you view today's ads, but anyway, the commercial has a great theme. What happens in the commercial is that one person sees another person do a good deed and it inspires them to do one and then someone sees that person's good deed and they do one and it keeps on going.
Last week I was in the Lowe's home improvement store looking for a piece of plywood. Those big sheets are pretty heavy but one customer was struggling by himself to hoist a few of them back on to a stack. I knew that it would be much easier with both of us doing it so I lent him a hand. He was very grateful. Two minutes later, I purchased two pieces of the wood sheets that I was looking for. I managed to get them out to the minivan by myself and then wondered how tough it would be to get them inside of the vehicle working alone. No sooner than the thought arose, another man parking beside me walked right up before I even started loading the wood sheets and said, "let me help you with that." I thought, that's really the way God made it.
The principle in the passage above speaks particularly to forgiveness, but I think it runs throughout much of life. If we feel like we ought to be a blessing to others, inevitably, we will be blessed. If we feel driven to help others, we too shall be helped. If we forgive, we shall be forgiven.
Today, don't worry about how you're going to complete all of your tasks. Help someone complete theirs and see that how maybe helping others is the way to get help.
