Subject: Rooting For The Christians
Galatians 6:10 "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith."
In case there are any die-hard Pittsburgh Steeler fans reading this, don't take it too seriously. This is more of a personal testimony of how I view a lot of sports and the way I view a lot of life.
My mom asked me who I was rooting for in yesterday's Super Bowl and since I really didn't feel strongly toward either team I said, "well Kurt Warner is the only strong Christian I know on either team so that's who I'm pulling for." In my view, I want the person receiving the award-winning trophy, who is going to give Jesus maximum air time. I love it when they do the post-game interviews and the athletes say something like, "first of all I'd like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." Even if I may have been pulling for the other team, as in the College Football Championship this year when Tim Tebow of Florida, known quite publicly for his faith, beat Oklahoma. I later found out that Oklahoma had a strong Christian presence in their All-American linebacker. I'm always cool with "my" team losing when the winners put Christ first.
Of course this is a form of Christian bias, but it's a good thing. I think the scripture above makes it clear that it's not a bad thing to be partial to those of faith. We want to do good to all people, but the body of Christ takes priority and that's why it taints our views on everything from politics to the restaurants we frequent, or should anyway.
Do you root for the Christians? It's a good habit to get into, because surely there are many of us rooting for you just because you are one.
