Subject: Spiritual Ears
John 6:60 - "Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?"
John 6:63 - "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."
Tact is not one of my strong suits. I really have to work hard to ensure that I am not offending someone with my words. Often I think that I'm saying one thing, but people hear something else.
Jesus had the problem of getting some to hear Him, but it wasn't because He didn't have tact. The problem was with the listeners or hearers. The words that Jesus spoke were "spirit and life" as He says in the passage above. Therefore those who heard it and could not comprehend it, needed to have "spiritual ears." Spiritual ears keep us sensitive to how God speaks to us and it makes those hard sayings much easier to comprehend.
Today if you're finding something that God is saying difficult to take or if you're having trouble hearing what He has said at all, try putting on your "spiritual ears." That's what it takes to hear words that are "spirit and life."
