Subject: The Danger of Playing It Safe
Luke 19:21 - "For I feared thee, because thou art an austere
man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst
not sow."
Lately, I've been using this quote I made up for the last couple of weeks
and it's one I firmly believe. "Most mistakes in life aren't made because
people are doing the wrong things, they're made because people are doing
nothing or the right thing half way." That's the case in the parable of
Luke 19 and it's so often the case in our personal lives today. We get paralyzed
by the fear of not being sure it's what God wants done or if the timing is
right or if this is the right person for me to marry or if I should invest
in this or give to that, so we freeze up to be safe.
If we decide to live our lives in a "self-manufactured" safety zone, we will
end up later in life wondering what would've or could've happened if we had
launched out with only a belief and trust that God was in control of it.
See God isn't only in control when we are right about our decisions. He's
even in control when we make a wrong decision. If we later realize that
it was the wrong decision, He's already planned how to make it work out for
our good and His glory. We've got understand and believe that all things
truly work together for good to them that love God and then "go for it."
In the parable of Luke 19, all of them were given the same number of pounds
to make use of. Some took chances, risks and invested theirs. However, one
decided that he should play it safe and not risk the chance of losing anything.
As Christians, it will be quite a pity if we never ever take the chance
to simply step out with only a belief that God is in control and that we
love Him. We will never experience the satisfaction of going deeper with
Him. So today, stop playing it safe and take a chance with God.
