Subject:  Surprised By The World? No!

1 John 5:19 "And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness."

"You commie, homo-loving sons of guns."  That was the opening statement of Sean Penn as he accepted his Oscar last night at the Academy Awards for his portrayal of Harvey Milk, a slain gay-rights pioneer.  Of course that's the way he is portrayed in the media.  I don't really call advocating sin something that any of us can "pioneer."  Sin and even that particular sin has been around for way longer than we have been.

At any rate, many in Hollywood thought that he would win this award and well, we should've also.  While there are seemingly more Christian conservatives "coming out of the closet," by and large, Hollywood is ground zero for those who support what they call, "liberal" causes.  That's their code word for sin.  With the victory of Proposition 8 in California, the voters in that state made clear that the people prefer the "God" standard when it comes to marriage, one man and one woman, but the world will continue to attempt to topple that standard.  This is just what the world does.

As the scripture says, "the world lieth in wickedness," so we shouldn't be surprised by any of this, but we must be aware and vigilant to maintain our standard because God surely hasn't changed His.

Today, don't be surprised by the wickedness of the world.  Employ the righteousness of God.  The world may poke fun at "homo-loving."  God is grieved with such sin.  So too should we be.
