Oscar Crown Of Life
Subject: Award Or Reward?
Matthew 16:27 - "For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works."
Revelation 2:10 - "... be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life."
There's lots of hoopla about the upcoming Academy Awards, of course there always is. "Who will win the Oscar?" That's what everyone is asking and you've got seemingly millions of people in millions of categories. Former Vice-President Al Gore is expected to win one along with a whole slew of actors and actresses and many people that aren't either.
As a young, idealistic officer in the Marine Corps in the mid-80's, I often shunned awards when recommended by my superiors. My philosophy was basically that, anything that I did, I should've done. I felt that I would ultimately be rewarded appropriately. While many people covet awards, I think there needs to be a distinction between awards and rewards.
See ultimately, we will all be "re"warded appropriately. You can be slighted in this life by not receiving the award you felt you were due, but, no one can stop your reward. Your "a"ward is how man recognizes you for some work or deed. Your "re"ward is the work that God recognizes you for. That's the important one.
Today, know that God will be "re"warding so fret not about your "a"wards.
