Subject: Sounds Right?
Matthew 24:24 - "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect."
In class with my students yesterday, we were preparing for the annual Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills Test (TAKS). I had a few english/language arts exercises to take them through. I asked one question about whether to use "was" or "were" as I read a sentence. They all responded and some said "was" and some said "were." When I asked them why, the most frequent response was, "because it sounds right." I said, "it sounds right? You'd better know the rule." I then went on to explain the issue of singular and plural to them.
Sometimes our faith is based only on what we think sounds right, looks right or feels right. Sometimes that works out for us, but like my students preparing for the test, we'd better know the rule. Much of what sounds, looks or feels right is 100% wrong and if we are unaware of the rule that God has established concerning that particular subject, we could be mislead.
The test is coming. If we've spent all of our lives guessing at the answers or going by what sounds right, we are not prepared. It doesn't matter how successful you've been in the past, the trick questions of life will fool you. You'd better know the rules. Read God's answer sheet.
