Subject: Yea, I'll Get That To Ya
Proverbs 25:14 - "Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain."
I'm often guilty of making idle promises about either visiting someone
or sending someone something. It's not usually that I don't plan on doing
it, it's just that it takes me too long to "get around to it" and then at
times I've forgotten what it was I said I was going to do. This can cause
problems in the way people view my character and my truthfulness to my words.
What happens when we make idle promises is that we build up expectations.
As the verse above says, when we see clouds we expect rain. People expect
an outpouring when you utter words of promise to them. Therefore, we must
be ever so vigilant to follow through on our words. To do less makes us
at the least forgetful and at the worst we can be called clouds without rain
or as we'd say in Texas, "big hat and no cattle."
Every word spoken will one day be accounted for. Let's start accounting for them now.
