Subject: Grow Up In God
1 Corinthians 13:11 - "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things."
It was about two years ago, so that would've made my daughters about eight and five years old. They continued to annoy me with some small game they were playing and I finally lost it with them and said, "please stop acting so childish." That's when it hit me, "well they are children." That's when I realized that perhaps my expectations were somewhat misguided.
When God asks us to do something, His expectations are always perfectly synchronized with our capability to achieve what He has asked us to do. That doesn't necessarily mean that we can do it by ourselves, but it means that God has given us all that we need to do it. The issue is this, God doesn't ask children to be grown-ups. Instead He asks us to walk in accordance with all that He has given us.
Now that our understanding has been enlightened through Jesus Christ, we should walk likewise. God never tells children to stop being childish, but He tells all of His children to grow up in the ways of God.
