Subject: Whatever Happened To Modesty?
Proverbs 7:9 - 10 "In the twilight, in the evening, in
the black and dark night: And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire
of an harlot, and subtle of heart."
Okay so maybe it was the jet lag and from having to spend the night in
the airport, but having to wait around for airports to open due to blizzards
can get boring. As I waited, I noticed something that I'm sure you may have
noticed as of late. I don't know if it's due to Britney Spears or some
of those others who decide to reveal themselves publicly, but I've noticed
that it's now the fashion trend to have your stomach showing. It doesn't
matter how your stomach looks, how skinny it is or how large it is, it is
"cool." Not only that, it was 15 degrees in Chicago and that's the way some
women were walking into the airport. A huge overcoat open in the front with
a midriff or half shirt on. What's up with that?
Okay I'm not a woman so perhaps I don't understand, but I remember Caylah
(5 years old) trying to get me to buy clothes of that type for her. I said
"no way." Call me a prude but I think that's where it starts. Initially
parents think it's cute, but it's not so cute when the kids grow up believing
that it is still that and they become teenagers dressing like the verse says
above in the "attire of an harlot" or as we say, "like a prostitute." Of
course by today's standard, maybe that's in. (that's in -that sin) Uhmm
a word play....anyway.
The trend of today seems to be one of "if you've got it, flaunt it." Well
whatever happened to, "if you've got it, treat it as precious and not something
for public consumption." Modesty seems to be out the window when it comes
to dress today and sadly, that's for many believers as well as unbelievers.
This can apply to men as well so today simply consider thy ways when it
comes to dress.
